Edible Playground schemes for schools

Edible Playgrounds offer a lively, engaging, multi-sensory way to teach children about growing and eating healthy food. We propose to provide funding and assistance to launch edible playground schemes in schools in Angus.

Why the contribution is important

Aside from the physical health benefits that eating well brings, learning in an outdoor environment combats Nature Deficit Disorder and has been shown to increase mental health by boosting mood, confidence and self-esteem. Furthermore, allowing the children to connect with nature develops attentiveness and self-reliance in the pupils, leading to more sustainable behaviours in the long term.

This is a lovely idea, although I think some schools might be short of outside space to do it - perhaps there could be a collaboration with local parks or community gardens to help schools without their own space get involved?

Gardening is definitely good for mental health and lots of children don't have access to gardens or don't have parents who know what to do. This could be a brilliant scheme!

A great way to provide education to children as well

Sounds like a good scheme, but is there funding and assistance for ongoing support and training for staff? It's not enough to only provide funding to launch schemes - staff at schools need to have the means and knowledge to keep them going too.

Gardens are great for wellbeing and it's brilliant to introduce kids to gardening when young! Presumably it shouldn't be too expensive as a scheme either.
